Synopsis: A tender and sweeping story about what roots us, Minari follows a Korean-American family that moves to an Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. The family home changes completely with the arrival of their sly, foul-mouthed, but incredibly loving grandmother. Amidst the instability and challenges of this new life in the rugged Ozarks, Minari shows the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home.
Awards: 3 SAG Awards nominations (the most of any film), 6 Independent Spirit Awards nominations (including Best Feature), a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, Sundance’s top honors (both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award), 7 Satellite Awards nominations, and many more.
“Minari is the movie we need right now: a gentle, truthful and tender story of family filled with kind people trying to love one another the best they can.”
– LA Times, Glenn Whipp
“One of the best movies of the year. Thoughtfully directed, vividly written, and beautifully acted, it’s a hopeful film, universally appealing despite – or perhaps because of – just how very Korean American it is.”
– Slate, Karen Han
“Steven Yeun’s brilliantly understated performance anchors a film filled to the brim with fantastic acting, from Yeri Han to Yuh-jung Youn.”
– Harper’s Bazaar, Candice Frederick
