TAP-NY Dance Roulette: Belly Dance
July 21, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm EDT
Join us for a one-of-a-kind workshop delving into the historical and artistic richness of a continuously evolving dance form! Believed to have originated in Egypt as Raqs Baladi, Belly Dance emphasizes isolation of body parts with movements ranging from fluid to percussive. This dance form is used in social and professional settings — whether you’re celebrating or wanting to take it to the stage! What particularly distinguishes Belly Dance from other dance forms is its use of props to complement hip and torso movements, including veils, veil pois, pots, canes, and even swords. Balance, coordination, and discipline are few of many factors comprising the beauty of belly dance and can be translated to other dance forms too. Today, belly dance is practiced by both men and women whose style ranges from traditional to tribal fusion.
This beginners workshop will be taught by Princeton graduates Ava and Crystal who both have multiple years of belly dance experience in the US and the Middle East. With an extensive vocabulary of movements, this workshop is sure to give you an educative experience with a fantastic workout on the side!
