TAP-NY is excited to welcome three new board members, Alvin, Bruce and Emma! Learn more about them below – and be sure to make it out to an event to meet them.

Alvin – Social Chair

What drew you to TAP and why did you decide to join the board?
I attended a few TAP events after moving to NYC last year and was thrilled to meet so many fun and talented people. Having also served on TAS board during college, I was interested in doing something similar in NYC and found the perfect community in TAP. Joining the board was an easy decision to continue giving back and working with a group of awesome people!

What do you hope to accomplish in your role? New event ideas?
As one of the incoming social chairs, I hope to foster stronger relationships within TAP and organize a variety of exciting events. Keep an eye out for some badminton and music jam sessions!

What is your favorite aspect of Taiwan?
Food and family!

What drew you to TAP and why did you decide to join the board?
Having moved to the city recently, I wanted to meet new friends and get plugged into the Taiwanese community. I was on TAP Atlanta’s E-board and had an awesome experience, so it was a no-brainer to join NYC’s chapter! From the get-go, I really enjoyed this community’s tight-knit culture, diverse events, and robust alumni network

What do you hope to accomplish in your role? New event ideas?
As a Social Chair, I would like to continue planning inclusive, engaging, and memorable events that will bring people together throughout NYC. Some ideas include a Winter Formal, regular pickup soccer events, and of course, awesome TAPpy Hours!

What is your favorite aspect of Taiwan?
All the delicious snacks and drinks at 7/11!

Emma – Cultural Chair

What drew you to TAP and why did you decide to join the board?
Being new to the city, I wanted to find a community to be a part of and heard about TAP through a friend. I went to a couple of events and really liked how welcoming everyone was and how diverse the events were. It felt like a community I wanted to be more involved with and help give back to.

What do you hope to accomplish in your role? New event ideas?
As incoming co-cultural chair, I hope to plan events with Alice (my co-cultural chair) that work with local small businesses to showcase Taiwanese culture through food, language, and other means to help people stay in touch with their culture or learn about Taiwanese culture! I would love to host some events that allow members the opportunity to practice or learn Mandarin/Taiwanese!

What is your favorite aspect of Taiwan?
The street food (night markets >>> restaurants) and family!
