Tell us about yourself! It can be about anything – where you grew up, your professional background, your hobbies, etc.

Hi TAP folks! I’m Jing and I’ve lived in New York for almost 2 years now. I grew up in Upstate NY and used to visit the city with my family but I’d argue the city is much more fun to experience as an adult. I look for any and every reason to get outdoors, whether it’s going for a bike ride around Manhattan, playing soccer at Pier 40 or swatting tennis balls at Hudson River Park. My time at home is spent trying to keep my three plant babies alive – I have a Birds of Paradise, a Monstera Deliciosa and a Cat Palm (this last one’s struggling a bit so tips are welcome!)

Why did you join TAP? What are your favorite events?

I feel like the strongest bonds you build with people are ones based on some shared affinity or shared interest. I previously attended TAP events when I lived in San Francisco so it was the first thing I thought of when I moved to New York. The dinners give you a chance to meet a small group of members in a more personal setting and the happy hours are great for talking to a more diverse group. My favorite event is the Boat Party from last summer (2022 edition coming up in July!).

Tell us something cool that happened to you this past year.

One of the things I missed the most since the start of the pandemic was traveling. I hadn’t gone anywhere internationally since my trip to Japan at the end of 2019. However, I finally changed that when I joined my friends on a trip to Ecuador – my very first time in South America!

If we wanted to hang out, where would we find you?

For wholesome activities, find me along the Hudson River Greenway or at Bryant Park for one of the music or movie nights they host throughout the summer.

What’s your advice for newer members who want to get more involved?

Check out the variety of events that TAP has to offer! You’re likely to find a different group at one of the happy hours compared to one of the events like rock climbing. Don’t be afraid to talk to other attendees or any of the board members – everyone is very friendly!
