In the spirit of celebrating spring and all the love that blossoms along with it, we caught up with TAP-NY all-star couple and our April Members of the Month, Robin and Fan.

Read on to learn more about them!

Tell us about yourself! It can be about anything – where you grew up, your professional background, your hobbies, etc.

Fan grew up in Changsha, China, and Robin grew up in the Virginia suburbs of Washington DC.  Consultants by trade, adventurers by night. How we met is a story best told in person, preferably over some libations.

We are transplants from the Washington DC area, convinced by our dear friend, Jen Nguyen, to move to the city.  I don’t remember how the conversation started, but it ended with something along the lines of, “Mark my words, Robin.  If you don’t move to New York, you will regret it for the rest of your life. But no pressure or anything…” Also, there may have been beer pong (or rage cage?) involved.  Regardless, the FOMO was real enough for us to make the move.

Tell us something cool that happened to you this past year.

A bunch of stuff happened… here are some highlights:

  • Tried civet coffee for the first time (i.e. paid money to drink animal excrement)
  • Successfully delivered a 6-card clue in Codenames with the word “moist”
  • Trapped by a herd of bison while driving through Yellowstone and saved by the park rangers
  • Helped like 50 Taiwanese Americans cut in the guest list line to see The Chainsmokers *shakes head*

If we wanted to hang out, where would we find you?

At TAP events!!! Also at concerts and music festivals, either riding the rail or in the back learning to shuffle.  Being a tourist… Eating and drinking all the things. At random events we see flyers for on the streets. At escape rooms, sporting events, and anything novel or fun.  Our time in this great city is limited, and we feel a strong urge to get it all in. We are generally D4W, so hit us up! Like we said earlier, the FOMO is real!

What’s your advice for newer members who want to get more involved?

Show up, keep an open mind, and just have fun!  Everybody we have met so far has been so friendly, and their smiles are seriously contagious. If you’re introverted like we are, just find a board member and they’ll hook you up ezpz.
