Why is TAP important to you, and why do you continue to be so active?
TAP is important to me because TAP brings Taiwanese people closer through hosting events. I continue to be active because it’s fun to attend TAP events and it’s a great way to get away from normal routines.
What kind of events would you like to see TAP put on in the future?
Definitely continue hosting sports-related events like basketball and softball. It also wouldn’t be a a bad idea to have a group to go to a baseball game as well.
What do you do in the city outside of TAP?
I am a second year PhD in Microbiology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Trying to survive in an expensive city with a student’s salary!
What’s your favorite place in Taiwan & what do you miss the most about Taiwan?
My favorite place is Raohe Street Night Market (饒河街觀光夜市) – it’s close to home and everything is delicious there, especially hand-rolls (手卷) and huijiao bing (胡椒餅). The thing I miss most about Taiwan is 7-11, it makes life so much more convenient.
What has been the best TAP event this past year and why?
The best TAP event this year was August’s TAPpy Hour at Hudson Terrace. It was a vibrant event at a great venue on a beautiful Thursday summer evening. It was really a great time and a great way to relax after work/school.
How have you increased your network through TAP, both personally and professionally?
I’ve been able to meet people and make friends that are outside of my immediate field and attending TAP events has allowed me to meet people from all over.
Where would you like to see TAP this time next year?
I would like to see TAP continue its course in hosting events that bring Taiwanese people in NYC closer. Sometimes we just need an excuse to get out and need a way to meet people who are from the same background and outside of our line of work. If anything, I would like to see that TAP not only host its own sports events but also expand its participation in New York sports league events such as flag-football and softball. It’s always fun to play outside and stay active.
How would you encourage newer TAP members to get involved?
I’d encourage members to get involved in TAP events – especially events other than TAPpy Hours – such as cooking and community service events. It is a good way to step out of Manhattan and participate something that is both different and fun, and get to meet others too!
