Why did you decide to get involved with TAP?
I think it’s really important to know who you are and where you come from. After being so involved with ITASA and TSA during college, I wanted something like that as a professional. TAP provided the open door that brought me and fellow Taiwanese Americans together.

Why is TAP important to you, and why do you continue to be so active?
TAP is important to me because it’s a great way to get connected with other Taiwanese Americans who share the same evolving and invaluable culture. I continue to be active because there are more and more people who come to TAP looking for that connection. It’s a really great place for us to share our professional skills and personal talents while developing friendships.

What has been the best TAP event this past year and why?
This past year, my favorite TAP event was the free Improv class that allowed us to channel our creativity while getting to know each other in a fun acting environment.

What kind of events would you like to see TAP put on in the future?
TAP has done so many great things already – from the topical dinners to cooking with Ah-Ma to the night market to sports activities. I’d like to see more intimate events that expose the creative side of Taiwanese American such as an open mic night or some talent show.

How have you increased your network through TAP, both personally and professionally?
I’ve met a lot of great people through TAP. There’s been a good number of marketing professionals who I can potentially work with in the future. I’ve also made several friends through TAP. It’s crazy how we’re connected with mutual friends in this small community of ours – it’s literally 2 degrees of separation sometimes.

What do you do in the city outside of TAP?
I’m a freelance copywriter in the advertising industry. Outside of work, I’m involved with TANG, the Asian American Film Lab, and Redeemer’s Center of Faith & Work. I also attend Vision Church.

What’s your favorite place in Taiwan & what do you miss the most about Taiwan?
My favorite place in Taiwan is Taipei, where the majority of my family is. As much as I miss the food and the delicious breakfast at Fu Hang Dou Jiang on Zong Xiao Dong Lu (Shandao Temple Station), I think I miss the people the most. There’s a great sense of vitality, love, and class that the people in Taiwan have – something that I’ve never seen anywhere else.

Where would you like to see TAP this time next year?
I’d like TAP to be seen more than just their successful TAPpy hour. TAP has done a great job creating smaller and more intimate events that allow more conversation between people. I hope that continues to grow and help people build relationships.

How would you encourage newer TAP members to get involved?
I’d tell them that TAP is clearly a great organization with a greater purpose of building up the Taiwanese American community. It’s full of wonderful people who work hard to make it happen while having a blast. And it will only get better with your involvement.

Why did you decide to get involved with TAP?
During my years in college ITASA got me interested in TAP so after graduation, it was pretty easy to transition in.

Why is TAP important to you, and why do you continue to be so active?
TAP is a vital organization in the NYC Asian community, and more importantly the Taiwanese community. It allows Taiwanese professionals to network, bond and share our cultural values as well as identity with other members of the Asian community.

What has been the best TAP event this past year and why?
TAP board and volunteer bbq! We all finally got to have fun with each other instead of always working events. It was great to spend time with the people who make TAP events happen.

What kind of events would you like to see TAP put on in the future?
I really wish TAP would throw more Taiwanese events (loved the Taiwanese cooking classes idea) as well as events to benefit charity/social causes important to Taiwan.

How have you increased your network through TAP, both personally and professionally?
I have met the most amazing people on TAP board and committee. They are some of the nicest, most patient and sincere people i have ever met. I really look up to a lot of them as role models.

What do you do in the city outside of TAP?
Museums, eating, shopping, spending time with friends.

What’s your favorite place in Taiwan & what do you miss the most about Taiwan?
This might sound weird, but Jinpo San is my favorite place. It’s breathtaking and every time i go there all my stress melts away and i remember what it’s all about. I miss everything about Taiwan; hot springs, flowers everywhere, the fur elise garbage trucks, the beautiful mountains and temples, shopping….there’s nothing i dont miss.

Where would you like to see TAP this time next year?
Bigger and better

How would you encourage newer TAP members to get involved?
Great events, good people, and JLin is Taiwanese too; what more could you ask for?
