Junior Reporter – Next Media Animation

The hire should be a recent college graduate with experience in writing and knowledge of Mandarin Chinese. This position offers a rare opportunity to shape and understand behind-the-scenes negotiations on political and economic issues between governments.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) serves as Taiwan’s principal representative office in the United States. TECRO is responsible for maintaining and developing bilateral relations between Taiwan and the United States. The Economic Division promotes economic and trade relations between Taiwan and the United States through contacts with the government and private sector in Washington and across the nation. The division also monitors U.S. trade legislation and policies, collects related economic and trade data, and conducts relevant analysis on issues that will impact other Taiwan government agencies.
TECRO’s Economic Division is looking for a full-time Research Associate to begin in mid-June 2011. The ideal candidate is a recent college graduate with a strong interest in the areas of international relations (especially Asia Pacific), international trade and economic policy.
Qualifications: Record of strong academic performance. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Solid Internet research abilities. Ability to work with PowerPoint, Excel, and quantitative information. Mandarin language capability preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities: Assist staff with long-term and short-term research on trade (global and bilateral), foreign policy and regulatory issues. Monitor developments and provide analysis on specific issues that affect Taiwan such as U.S. and international trade and regulatory policies, administration decision-making and the activities of multilateral institutions; Collect relevant economic and trade data; Attend congressional hearings and report developments to staff; Manage internal news monitoring and analysis.

Taiwan News, under the ownership of the I-Mei Group, is one of three national English-language newspapers in Taiwan. The company will soon expand the newspaper from 16 pages to 24 pages, so we’re looking to hire two more full-time editors as soon as possible.
The requirements for the job are as follows:
1) Language skills: Fluent in English and some knowledge of Mandarin Chinese.
2) Select stories and photos from various news agencies such as AP, AFP, NY Times, Central News Agencies, Bloomberg…etc.
3) Make use of international organizations’ websites such as World Bank, WTO, WHO, search for contents related to Taiwan but not covered by regular news agencies.
4) Work out the page layout using InDesign and edit contents as needed.
