By Emily Kuo, TAP-NY Community Chair
One of the best things about TAP-NY that’s too often taken for granted or overlooked is our expansive network. TAP is much more than the New York chapter – we have sister chapters all over the US that aspire to the same goals and values of TAP-NY: strengthening the Taiwanese community, fostering personal and professional development, and having fun. Being able to draw on a wide-reaching library of ideas from our sister chapters is a huge boon, plus, they also serve as a pre-established community for those of us who choose to move to another city.
This Labor Day Weekend (September 4th to 7th), the leaders of all of the TAP Chapters, as well as the TACL National Board and its affiliated programs, will be convening in NYC for the 2015 TACL National Convention. They’ll get a chance to see the great work we do as TAP-NY, and we’ll be able to hear about their experiences and ideas. Of course, many Convention activities are open to TAP-NY members, including our Convention kickoff TAPpy Hour at Circle on Friday, the 30th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, TAP Olympics field day on Sunday, and more social activities on Monday.
We’re especially pumped for the black tie Gala at Manhattan Penthouse, where we’ll be celebrating TACL’s 30th year and the success of the Taiwanese American community. The venue features 360º views of Manhattan, and we’ve secured a premium open bar for attendees all night long. We’ll begin by snacking on hot hors d’oeuvres while mingling with the different programs and chapters under TACL, then sit down for a three-course meal. Following dinner, we’ll open up the dance floor and show off our moves.
Building the Taiwanese American community is one of the core values of TAP-NY, and there’s no better way to show your support than by coming out for a packed and unforgettable weekend and an elegant black tie gala in the heart of Manhattan with our sister chapters. Join the TAP-NY board in welcoming the other chapters and help us show them why we’re the best one 😉
