“TAP-NY brought Chinese culture to kids in Harlem at our GLP Community Service Day. Kids learned Chinese calligraphy, played with Chinese yoyos, created Chinese dragon paper cut-outs and lanterns, folded origami, danced with Chinese ribbons and fans and ate “tang yuan” after a “yuan shiao” story. Join us at our next event with the kids!”

Why: Global Language Project (GLP) is an innovative educational movement that seeks to equip underprivileged public-school students with the skills to compete in a globalized world and work force. GLP provides a free language program that offers Mandarin Chinese to elementary school students in Harlem so that they can have an opportunity to achieve proficiency in a secondary language.

For this event, we will share Chinese culture with the kids through Chinese calligraphy, paper-cutting, Shuttlecock kicking, Chinese yo-yo, origami, and many more!

How: This is an event the kids anxiously look forward to each year and we need your help, so please sign up here to volunteer! Email Jennifer.Lin@tap-ny.org with any questions.

When: Saturday, June 1, 11AM – 1PM
Where: PS 368 (1750 Amsterdam Avenue)
