As snowflakes drifted down last Saturday night, TAP-NY kicked off the year with our 6th Annual Lunar New Year Banquet at Golden Unicorn. Amidst laughter and friends, a sumptuous nine-course feast was complemented with libations from Remy Martin while the TAP board provided entertainment and competed for their charities. There were four crowd stunning acts in our Charity Talent Show: a tribute to 1960’s Taiwanese hit “Give Me a Kiss” in a live music video; a traditional dance with flowing skirts choreographed to Taiwanese pop; an ROFL TAP-NY rendition of Chinglish; and a powerful kung-fu display filled with flips and possibly lethal fans.

The cultural winner went to sister duo Brooke & Erica Chuang with their kung-fu fans while the crowd favorite went to TAP-NY’s rendition of Chinglish as written and performed by Alex Shih, Andy Ni and Jennifer Lin. Portions of ticket proceeds will be donated to the winning teams’ charities: The Blacksmith Project and the Global Language Project.

Our ice breaker Quizzo tested attendees’ knowledge of Taiwan, TAP and general randomness. Did you know that a group of unicorns is called a “blessing”?

Any banquet would not be complete without a raffle and we closed out the dinner with an exciting raffle that included multi-colored Year of the Snake lanterns from Taiwan Tourism Bureau, gift certificates from Bian Dang, free dental exams and a Zoom Whitening session from Dr. Nancy Nguyen, a bottle of Remy VSOP and a 6-week workout program with the super fit former TAP-NY president, Bob Wu.

Thank you to all our sponsors and friends who came out to celebrate with us! Check out these pictures on Facebook and more will be posted soon!

P.S. If you didn’t make it out to the after-party at the Hotel on Rivington, you missed out on a great time.
